A Case Study of a Coal Generator- Khao Hinsorn

 

This document summarizes the book “Food - Coal, the Crossroad of Agricultural Land Development of Phanom Sarakham – Sanam Chai Khet” which was developed by an interest group sharing concern over the impacts of the 600 megawatt coal-based thermal power plant project of the National Power Supply (Public) Company Limited. This power plant is being considered for approval by the Operating License in the Khao Hinsorn Sub-District, Phanom Sarakham District, of the Chachoengsao Province. This interest group conducted Health Impact Assessment (HIA) study which has external agencies and academic consultants. The HIA which study by the community will be called “Community HIA or CHIA”. The group members mainly consist of farmers from various agricultural networks, such as: Chachoengsao Alternative Agriculture Network, Organic Farming of Sanam Chai Khet, Agroforestry Network, Save Bangkla, Mango Gardeners and Straw Mushroom Farmers. The two yearlong study provided critical information to Power Plants Licensing agencies. In addition, the study provided information of food production potential and information regarding proper development of health future community. The definition of Health and Health Determinants are varying from communities. Therefore, the definition of this community is specific to the way of agriculture community.
